The Wicker King by K. Ancrum
3.0

3.5/5 This could have been a four star book maybe even 4.5 but sadly it lost me in the resolution of the plot and details and lack of discussion/poor discussion around the.mental health themes. I loved, loved the writing style - easy and really nicely paced (I did listen to the audiobook). The relationships were very well written and believable but the plot really fell apart for me. I feel like this had the unfortunate makings of YA novel that felt like it was written by a teenager because when it came to the plot the logistics were so off for me. There were adults doing things for teenagers that adults would never do, just ugh, that shit takes me completely out of the story, it's a total shame. If you're better at suspending disbelief than me, maybe it won't be a problem for you. It was an interesting plot for sure, I just wish it had gone a different way. I had a lot of questions about why things ended up the way they did and there was never going to be answers because the logistics of the criminal and medical systems and honestly mental health were not well portrayed here. I picked this up on a whim with very little knowledge of but honestly people should definitely be aware that, IMO, this covers mental health in a pretty triggering (read poorly done) way and I'm never sensitive to that topic but this seriously irked me.
