“Paws off my ride, asshole. And yes, although gender is a social construct and it’s not appropriate to assume you know anything about a person’s identity, I am, in fact, a girl.”
I recently found myself completely captivated by a book, staying up late to finish it in one sitting! This was my first experience with Abby Millsaps, and I loved every moment of it. The book was such a quick read that it left me eager for more. When I signed up for the ARC "Boys of Lake Chapel: The Complete Series," I had no idea I was in for a treat with three books in one! After finishing the first book, I was absolutely itching to dive into the second, especially with that cliffhanger at the end.
This book serves up a delightful ensemble of characters, each with their own unique flair. The sass from our fabulous female main character is spot on—she had me laughing out loud! I love how she dishes it right back at the men, keeping them on their toes. And watch out, because she's always ready to pull a prank or two!
When it comes to choosing a favorite from a "why choose" book, Kylian is currently my top pick; it's hard not to admire him. However, as the story progresses, I'm eager to see who else might rise to the top. Only time will tell if my preference changes.
Josephine has recently earned a scholarship to the university and is now living with her uncle to pursue her education. Despite facing significant challenges throughout her life, including a diagnosis of conversion disorder, she has shown remarkable resilience and strength. Her journey highlights her determination to overcome adversity and build a brighter future.
Kylain, who is neurodivergent and exceptional with numbers, serves as the strategic mind behind the football team, guiding play decisions. He truly values his relationship with Josephine and is dedicated to discovering her preferences. His contributions to the team and care for others highlight his unique strengths and character.
Locke spent his early years in foster care until he was adopted at eight, but his childhood trauma left him with rheumatoid arthritis. Despite this challenge, he remains passionate about football and proudly embraces his emo identity. After betraying Josephine and losing her trust, he is committed to being patient and dedicated in his efforts to earn her forgiveness.
Kendrick, a linebacker whose lupus is currently in remission thanks to experimental treatments, is poised to be a first-round draft pick after his college season. Although little is known about him, it's clear that he has a complicated dynamic with Josephine; whenever she is around, he often gets angry and leaves abruptly. This behavior suggests he might actually have feelings for her, masking his true emotions with frustration.
Decker rules the town and has a powerful influence over everything. With a famous quarterback for a father, he’s determined to follow in his footsteps while protecting his family at all costs. Initially, he may come off as an entitled jerk, but as you learn more about him, you start to see the complexities underneath. By the end, you find yourself rooting for him despite your earlier judgments.

“Now that I know what’s at stake, no one is getting to you. I meant what I said, Jo. You’re mine. I’m never letting you go.”
The cliffhanger left me in tears and made me eager to dive into the next book. Book 2 completely outshines the first, with its intense spice and even hotter characters. I really appreciated the in-depth exploration of Josephine’s past; it was painful yet essential for the narrative. This aspect of her story resonates with so many girls, reminding them they’re not alone. It's powerful to see struggles portrayed so authentically. Ultimately, that connection makes the story even more impactful. Despite experiencing difficult times, we have the ability to heal and create a better future. Our past does not determine our identity but rather shapes who we choose to become.
“Kylian’s been my safe place for weeks. I need him like I need my next breath.”
Kylian, Locke, and Kendrick have all shown significant development throughout the book. I hope Decker can get his act together before he loses everything. He may still have some growing up to do, or perhaps it's that he's been forced to grow up too quickly. Kylian remains my favorite, but the others are starting to win me over as well. Excited to jump into book 3!
“I like it when you get violent on me, baby.” I snort out a laugh. “You would, Emo Boy.”
Too Far
“I’ll try harder. I’ll be better. I’ll hold you in the dark and honor you in every way. I’ll do whatever it takes to make this the life of your dreams. I’ll love you forever and honor you in every way.”
The last book in the series was the longest; while it took me longer to finish, I still found it enjoyable, even if it wasn't my favorite of the three. I thoroughly enjoyed the ending, and the added spice made it even better; this series is definitely one I’ll remember.
The characters have all experienced remarkable growth in a short time, highlighting how one individual can positively impact your life.
Kylian, or should I say “Daddy Genius,” will always be my favorite; his extraordinary devotion to her warms my heart. I truly love this man. Once they all identify their roles and the rules, I believe they establish a great dynamic. Making it an undeniable connection and love they all share that I truly envy.
Abby’s writing in this book was incredible, and now that it’s over, I find myself looking forward to reading more of her work. I love a good found family, and why choose book!
“I need to know you’re okay more than I need good sleep tonight, baby. Come down and let me take care of you.” My heart patters out of my chest at his confession. Kylian is my rock, my safety, my harbor, and my anchor. He rarely communicates his own needs to me. It doesn’t come naturally to him.
Boys of Lake Chapel: The Complete Series
“I watch you because I’m obsessed with you. Every breath you take, I want to witness. Each little sigh in your sleep, I want to hear. Every smile. Every grimace. I want to see them all. I need to remember them. Commit them to memory.”
I absolutely loved this entire series, especially the bonus scenes! It's so wonderful to see how the characters' lives unfold years later. It really ties everything together and gives a satisfying sense of closure. What disappoints me most in a book is the lack of insight into its ending and how the future unfolds. Unlike most books that leave me wanting more, this one truly made me feel satisfied.
I would absolutely reread this series without hesitation and might even grab the audiobook for another listen. It's definitely a captivating "why choose" series that I wholeheartedly recommend.
