Suprisingly I liked the second book in this series the best, however, I still liked this one. The characters were complex and took me thorugh a rollercoaster of emotions. Did I hate them, pity them, or love them? At times I wanetd to cry with them and at others I needed to set the book down because I was so over them. I think that's a strong sign in an author to end the book well after it could have gone so poorly and to bring you back around to a charcter you may have lost hope in. At the beginning of the book the main character Pippa is already deeply traumatized. She wants to solve just one more case, believing if it is straightforward black and white she will set herself right. However, as the book goes on, especially in part two, Pippa puts herself more and more in the gray area, and plans change (spoiler altert she somehow has even more trauma now). Speaking of which this book was interesting in that the part one and part two were very distinct. Sometimes there isn't a big difference between the parts, but here there were and I was able to reflect on that change throughout since it coincided with Pippa's charcter development. Overall I enjoyed this book and its trip into the morally gray.
