Death at Morning House by Maureen Johnson
2.5
dark mysterious medium-paced

i've read all of the truly devious series and love a ya murder mystery, so reading this was a no-brainer. as someone who lives close to the 1000 islands (canada name drop), it was fun to read a book set nearby!

while maureen johnson loves a group of kids mostly isolated from adults who band together to solve a crime (niche), i felt like these characters were flatter and were much less developed characters than the TD kids? granted, we have more books in the TD series to get the know the characters, but i wasn't particularly connected to nor was i rooting for/against any of them. they were just there.

i actually much preferred the timeline with the ralston kids! i found that perspective much less predictable than the current timeline with marlowe and the other teens working on the island, and the familial aspect was more interesting.

overall, i always finish a murder mystery, but this one definitely didn't capture my attention like TD - a little too predictable and a little too boring (i would read more about the ralstons though....)

2.5/5 rounded up!
