Brutal Ambition by Sam Mariano
3.0

Things I liked:
- more world building
- Killian
- the twist and the general arc of the plot

Things I didn’t like:
- is this the least secret society to ever exist? Why did literally every character know about it if it’s supposed to be so hush hush?
- that the dub/non con felt unnecessary. To me it felt like an after thought of « oh and the sex scenes must be dubious! » rather than previous books where the situations felt more vital to the story/relationship. I don’t mind it being present but it really bothered me that it seemed tacked on and the heroine never really called it out like they have in past books.
- Brynn as a character didn’t feel as fleshed out as others. I feel like I could give you a checklist of things I know about her but for someone’s who’s POV we were in the majority of the time, I don’t know, felt off.
- seeing Aubrey again but like is she a totally different person?! This felt gimmicky and not at all like the character we met in her book.

Even though there was quite a bit that felt off, I still enjoyed the read. I feel invested in this world and want to know more about the relationships and character dynamics and will definitely be reading the next one.
