This book was quite a thrilling ride, full of unexpected twists and turns. However, I must warn you that this review contains some spoilers!

While there were many aspects of the storyline that I found engaging, I couldn't help but feel conflicted about the main character, Maya. Although I could understand some of the actions she takes, I simply could not empathize with her character.

For instance, Maya chooses to murder her husband and abandon her daughter, leaving her without a parent. While I admit that her husband's actions were despicable, I believe that as an intelligent person, she could have come up with better ways to deal with the situation.

Furthermore, Maya's decision to choose death over a life with her daughter left me puzzled. I couldn't fathom why anyone would willingly leave their child behind in such a manner.

Leaving her daughter with an alcoholic uncle and breaking her promise to her sister to take care of her niece and nephew only added to my frustration with Maya's character.

And throughout most of the book she is distant mother who seemed to lack any real connection with her daughter, I found it hard to root for her.

Despite my dislike for Maya, I must admit that the story kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I was intrigued by the complicated web of relationships and secrets that Coben had woven, and I was eager to see how it all came together in the end.

While this may not have been the best Coben novel to start with, I am still looking forward to reading more of his work in the future.
