The Unbalanced Equation by H.L. Macfarlane

4.0

This story reminded me of The Love Hypothesis, just that it is a similar setting.

This story follows Elizabeth Mclean and Thomas, or Tom, Henderson who both work in Molecular Genetics and meet at a party and you can tell there is definitely attraction there. However, the next day, instead of asking her out, Tom is told he will be her PHD assessor. Now he has to keep it professional between the two of them, and how does he decide to do that? By being a jerk to make sure they don't cross any lines. Of course, Liz just thinks she read him wrong at the party and thinks he is actually a jerk. Move forward four years later, they meet again, and there is clearly still attraction there, but they meet their parents at a restaurant, not realizing, his mom and her dad have been seeing each other and are now engaged and only just told their kids. Now, they are all living together temporarily, and this is when Tom decides he is going to somehow show Liz that he actually has loved her ever since they met and try to make them work, while Liz has opposite ideas of revenge.

This was a fun read for me. I think I really needed a romcom since I had lately been reading some darker fantasies and I really needed something to break that up. This was definitely funny! Their banter is hilarious, and you can totally tell they are into each other, and yet are so immature about it lol.

Tom reminded me of Warner from the Shatter Me series because he is vain and really cares about the way he looks and carries himself as well as how is home looks. He sounds amazing! I mean I love a man that knows how to dress, and cook! And Liz I liked overall, I will say I cannot stand petty revenge schemes, I think they are pointless and makes you an immature and petulant child. That being said, I still really did like her, and they worked so well together as a team, and you could really feel the chemistry coming off the pages between the two of them despite being rather immature for their ages.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book! It's a feel good romcom with steamy romance. I just wasn't a fan of the petty revenge scheme. Other than that, it was great and I would recommend it!

I received an advance review copy for free(thank you to BookSirens and the author), and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
