Emma by Jane Austen

5.0

okay so where do i start? as quoted from the novel, me to this book: “if i loved you less, maybe i could talk about it more.”

emma was such an engaging protagonist, with her off handed remarks and bright disposition. knightley was dashing and intriguing, harriet was sweet and lovely, and the cast of characters really revealed the nuances in regency society.

many describe this book as exhausting or boring, and to each their own. but i find this a perfect representation of an era i so dearly love in history. and keeping the time period of which this was written in mind, it was probably scandalous and breathtaking in it’s own form! i have no large criticisms about the pacing or plot, because it is exactly what occurred in such a proper english society of the past.

i watched the emma (2020) film shortly after finishing the novel, and it just made me love this story even more. the love it provokes in me is ridiculous.

pre-review:
i adored it to the utmost extent that a person could adore such a book! rtc <3
