Loved this first book in The Lynburn Legacy series! The story begins with a snarky Kami who is an intrepid reporter. She is determined to create her school's first newspaper and enlists her friend Amber to help her. Kami has a secret that she has only told a few people. Ever since she can remember, she has had a boy named Jared in her head. She thinks he is an imaginary friend, but when he shows up in her small town, Kami doesn't know what to do. The fact that he is a dreaded Lynburn is another scary prospect. The family has been missing for years, but suddenly returns. When a bizarre animal killing takes place, Kami is determined to find out why and if it is connected to the Lynburns.

Kami is a funny, enjoyable character whom you can't help but love. Her friends are entertaining as well. Jared is the typical bad boy with a heart and his cousin Ash, is the handsome opposite. The story takes a lot of twists and turns and is a fun read especially for Halloween. Once I got into it, it was hard to put down. There is a character who turns out to be a lesbian, but her character is written in a smart non-annoying way. While I don't enjoy reading about gay characters (seems to be inescapable in YA fiction these days), she was not off-putting. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
