Summer by Karl Ove Knausgård

5.0

The combined style of vignettes intermixed with diary entries created this full picture of this man we have been following for 3 previous books now. The value of this mixed style is weighed by the impact that having the styles separated originally. Without the evolving style of the first three books, the impact that the cohesiveness of the short stories and diary entries would not exist.

Only because these thoughts were separated do they now have this much value after coming all together. This volume was my personal favorite. It was refreshing and pensive and all the things the previous volumes had been but with the bright shining sun bearing down on it, scaring away all of the shadows and fear. Especially with how dark and intense that Spring was, the summer breeze of Karl Ove Knausgard's words wash over you, cooling down the overwhelming chafe of the world against your skin.
