Truth or Dare by Non Pratt

Non Pratt is one of my favourite authors. Remix was my number one read of 2015, and I loved Trouble almost as much.
Truth or Dare has a really interesting twist to it. You read one side of the story, which is told from Claire’s point of view, and when you’re ready to read the second half you literally flip the book upside down for Sef’s perspective.
Sef wants to launch a YouTube channel to help raise money to care for his brother, who was left disabled after a tragic car accident, and Claire has just the filming and editing skills required.
The unlikely pair begin creating truth or dare videos. They start out reasonably tame, but they soon come to realise that tame won’t cut it. Their dares become more and more daring and dangerous as they struggle to raise the funds they need, but how far will they take it?
I’d certainly say that Truth or Dare is unexpected. I had no idea where it was headed, with twists and turns that I didn’t see coming at all. But I didn’t find myself connecting with its characters as much as I did in Remix and Trouble, which is something I’ve loved so much about Non’s writing in the past.
That said, I expected to find the second half of the story quite slow because it’s essentially the same story told again, but it’s very cleverly done. It’s quite the eye-opener, because things from Sef’s perspective are not at all what you imagine they’ll be, and I’ve never read a book quite like it.
Whether or not you’ve read Remix and Trouble, I’d recommend picking up Truth or Dare. As always, I can’t wait to read whatever Non Pratt comes up with next.
