Thus book could not have come out at a more perfect time. This is an apocalyptic allegory for the types of responses Americans have to the current political climate. We allow ourselves to be used as tools to advance the narratives of those in power. It's not quite as poignant as Animal Farm or 1984, but it gets the point across well enough and does modernize the good ole Orwellian dystopian narrative. I quite enjoyed the horror aspect as well. I really like when I can be horrified and also use my brain.
