This was hard for me to get into (I think I started and finished something like 4 other books before returning to this one), but definitely worth reading. Before this book all I knew about Jeju Island was that people vacation there, there's good citrus, and maybe something about women divers who can hold their breath for a long time. I did not hear about the massacres & suppression, even though the U.S. military was also at the scene of the crimes so to speak. This book also has really accurate depictions of migraine pain lol.
