The Greatest Invention: A History of the World in Nine Mysterious Scripts by Silvia Ferrara

informative medium-paced

3.5

Fascinating information, relayed in a rambling, lecture-style format, complete with wonderful asides and (to me) annoying comparisons. There’s a lot of words packed in here, and I did really enjoy learning. Unfortunately, the book itself wasn’t for me, and I found myself zoning out more often than not. (I likely would’ve been more engaged if this was written more like a traditional history textbook, but I understand that’s not really the audience she’s going for.) I think I’ll stick to more book history than linguistic history, and that’s okay.
