Midnight Valentine by J.T. Geissinger

This book has a similar setup to one by my other favourite contemporary romance writers who likes to bring the DRAMA: Tiffany Reisz’ [b:The Night Mark|30698729|The Night Mark|Tiffany Reisz|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1475584741s/30698729.jpg|51242684]. A young widow, deeply grieving, finds an incarnation of her dead husband through varying degrees of supernatural intervention.
You have to kind of buy into the concept, otherwise these books are both about people who are severely mentally ill. This book at least acknowledges that. There’s some god stuff involved, but not so much that it crossed the line into “inspirational”.
It’s very well written and even though it’s in the heroine’s first person POV it gives the hero enough character, which is doubly impressive since he’s mute. The heroine wasn’t as well-rounded out as an individual, just who she is in relation to her husband or the hero.
The plot itself was mostly predictable- I guessed most of the major revelations. I’m glad the author didn’t end up doing what she mentions in her postscript; that would have been too much.
