We Do This 'til We Free Us: Abolitionist Organizing and Transforming Justice by Mariame Kaba

fast-paced

4.75

“Mistaking emotional satisfaction for justice is also not abolitionist. Abolitionism is not a politics mediated by emotional responses. Or, as we initially wanted to title this piece, abolition is not about your fucking feelings”

This is a fantastic collection of interviews and writing. Though I’m not normally a huge fan of this format, as it sometimes lends itself to feeling overly repetitive, this book masterfully avoided that roadblock. The flow felt very natural, despite leaping from year to year, instead centering themes and concepts in its organization. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone hoping to expand their understanding of abolition
