This book made me think a lot. There's a lot of rumination on topics like time, what binds people together, anarchist politics, and the meaning of freedom. I think the characters are complex and not entirely lovable, which I enjoy sitting with. I also really love the dual timeline and searing political commentary.

My main issues with this book are the anti-indigenous terminology used throughout like "savage" and "primitive" - these are framed as bad things. I also really don't understand the sexual assault scene in this book. It is never resolved and basically forgotten after it happens. That really took away from the book for me.
