Really loved this book so much, once I started reading I truly couldn’t stop. The characters felt well written and the relationships genuinely captured my heart. Despite being someone who has trouble understanding implications, especially in an unfamiliar setting such as a historical Chinese court, the author did a fantastic job of explaining the reasoning behind the characters’ actions (often done through qi yan’s advice to nangong jingnu, which made it seem more natural while also adding to the world building aspect). Qi yan’s cleverness and intellect truly made her such a delightful character, and seeing the way she impacted Jingnu’s growth was incredibly satisfying as well. While this does feel like a novel that might not appeal to everyone, for me it was an absolutely enamoring read!
