The Warning by James Patterson

3.0

This book was meh at best. Not the best but not the worst book I've ever read. There were several errors that should have been easily caught in the editing process, and the characters seriously lacked continuity. One page, they'd be stitching up wounds and fighting bad guys. The next page, they'd be talking about a high school dance and their first kiss while their world was crumbling around them. It was hard to tell what maturity level they would be at any given moment. The "AI wants to be human" trope is way overused and doesn't make any sense to me. Why would an all-powerful supercomputer want to inhabit a lesser life form? The ending was WAY too abrupt. There were too many unanswered questions. I expected at least a few more pages if not a few more chapters to tie things together. It made me really angry when I finished the book.

Side note: while I realize the animal cruelty was part of the plot and the world in the book, it still wasn't fun to read. Especially since the gore was sometimes way too detailed.
