I Am, I Am, I Am: Seventeen Brushes with Death by Maggie O'Farrell

challenging dark informative reflective fast-paced

My jaw was on the floor at some of these stories. It’s unbelievable how many times Maggie O’Farrell has come close to death in one way or another. Some of the tales were scarily relatable (I’m especially thinking of the first one, about an encounter with a creepy man on a secluded trail who could have easily murdered O’Farrell without anyone knowing), and others gave me glimpses of experiences I’ve never had (encephalitis and its resulting lifelong complications are no joke). And, as always, O’Farrell’s writing is beautiful, which is especially impressive given the serious and scary subject matter.
