Soul of the Fire by Terry Goodkind

4.0

I’m surely an outlier here because I really enjoyed this book. I found the dynamics and the power intrigue at Anderith interesting.

However, I’m 4 starring this book because the resolution for the chimes seemed odd/rushed/nonsensical. How did Richard know how to proceed in order to banish the chimes? I wasn’t really convinced and I was let down.
Furthermore, I always feel a little uncomfortable when the author remembers to introduce new elements to the world-building; case in point: the Grace. I would say that the Grace seems a central element in magic (and it was present as such in this installment), so how come we never heard about it? I totally understand that it is difficult for an author to plan this far head, but situations like this shatter my suspension of disbelief. Finally, the initial amount of exposition was absurd in the first chapters.
