Mickey Chambers Shakes It Up has all the right ingredients for a fun romance read: interesting characters, fun concept, and a nice helping of spice. While I went into the book a little apprehensive (I don’t really care much for age gap romances), I didn’t feel like this one felt unnecessarily weird or expounded on. It was an element, but not the whole thing.

There were some things that felt a little eh as I read. i feel like the main characters liked each other before they really got to know each other, and that led to a lack of tension that I would’ve preferred to see. The double whammy of Diego being Mickey’s boss and Mickey being Diego’s professor didn’t really feel like it held any stakes at all based on how the characters acted. I wouldn’t say it was unnecessary, but I think almost the same story could be told without that element. The book also felt a tad long, and I also think that’s due to a lack of “will they won’t they?” It gave a bit of an “okay, now what?” sort of feel. However, I did like getting to see more moments of the two connecting so I wouldn’t have wanted to miss that.

I’m looking forward to seeing more from this author!
