Dead Souls by Angela Marsons

5.0

The sixth outing for DI Kim Stone and her team and a real departure as Stone is forced to work with an old adversary to solve the case of three bodies uncovered at an archeological dig. Her team, Dawson, Bryant and Stacey are left to look into various other cases only for everything to collide spectacularly as the story progresses.
The subject matter - hate crime - is brutal and some descriptions are particularly graphic and it's worth reading the authors notes at the end. Stone's partnership with DI Travis is fraught with tension dating back five years and is a welcome change, as it is for the other three with Stacey in particular really coming into her own as a human rather than a tech genius.
I enjoyed this hugely as past and present clash in more ways than one and good to see a different side of all the main characters we've come to know and love.
