This is a book about grief. It did such a fantastic job exploring the various thoughts and emotions that comes with losing a loved one.

Amelia's world fell apart when her best friend Jenna died in a car accident. Before Jenna's death, the two got into a huge fight over the fact that Jenna met their favorite author, N.E. Endsley, without telling Amelia. Wracked with grief, Amelia no longer finds the joy in reading until one day, a mysterious rare edition of N.E. Endsley's book was delivered to Amelia. Convinced that Jenna somehow arranged for this happen, Amelia decides to travel across the country to find out where the book really came from and to get some closure.

While I don't normally like cheesy stories about finding love while grieving, I instantly fell in love with this one. I somehow didn't find it cheesy. Instead, I found it emotional and heartwarming.

I loved the setting, the characters, and their relationships - they were so special, it was almost magical. Vals' Bookstore was especially charming and I hope such a bookstore exists in real life for me to visit. My only complaint was the over-appearance of the whales, which I think was a bit much and rather unnecessary. The story was enchanting enough on it's own, without having to incorporate flying whale metaphors.
