This was such a fun read. I’m in love with the Villainess follows the point of view of Rae Taylor who wakes up one day in the world of Revolution( her favourite video game) as the main character. During this fantasy romance game, the main character attends an elite school as a commoner who got a scholarship to attend, there the MC excels at magic, saves the school, and typically follows a romantic path that lets her choose between the three princes also attending the school. However our Rae doesn’t want the princes.. she wants her rival- the riveting Miss Claire.
Therefore Rae changes the outcome of the game as she does everything in her power to become attached or joined at hip to Miss Claire. Leading to some interesting game changes and the beginning( of what I hope is) a slow burn sapphic romance.
This is the first light novel I’ve read and I enjoyed it, for the most part. I think once I just accepted that not everything would be explained- like for example, how Rae transported into the game to begin with- the story flowed better for me.
Rae was hilarious and I loved how much she obsessed over Claire. Granted some may find it annoying but I couldn’t help but relate. I too, would probably declare love to my favourite character if I was sucked into a game and/or book I loved. Furthermore, Claire seems to thaw towards Rae throughout the book and I genuinely think there’s a chance of some feelings developing.
Overall- not a bad book. I probably would have rated this four stars if not for the weird plot twist at the end. However, I cannot wait to see what happens in the sequel.
Content Warnings: Incest (side characters), classism, homophobia, racism.
