A Lady of Persuasion by Tessa Dare

5.0

I loved this so much. this is the first mass-market paperback historical romance I've read and its the first Tessa dare book I've read. I was not disappointed with Mrs. Dare. I can see myself reading many more of her books. I didn't expect to love this as much as I did. there were parts where I feel the book should have been boring, but the way it was written and the way I cared for the characters kept me so constantly invested. I do wish that some scenes weren't skipped over though. it was a little odd how important scenes that could have been very sweet and telling were fast-forwarded through. like the first time Bel goes to dinner with Toby's family, there is a chapter where Bel meets Toby's mom for the first time and she is then invited to have dinner with all of Toby's family, the next chapter, however, is not that first, important dinner but is a family dinner a few weeks into the future where Bel is already well adjusted into the family. There was also the wedding scene (or lack thereof). There is a scene on the morning of the big wedding with Toby and his brother and the scene ends with Toby's friend wishing him luck at the wedding. But then, the actual wedding is skipped over? In the next scene, the couple is already married and going on their honeymoon?? I don't understand why these scenes got skipped over? oh well. I still really liked this. but that may be because it was my first time reading something like this.
