I enjoyed this read, but not nearly as much as Legendborn. This book definitely suffers from second book syndrome. I can appreciate the middle 50% of the book for the character development/relationship building, but the plot meandered so much it was hard to follow any clear storyline. Then the last 10% was a whirlwind and I’m still pretty sure I missed some things. 
But I definitely enjoyed the expansion of this world, the exploration of Bree’s ancestor work and root magic, and character development, especially for Selwyn. I enjoyed the way the love triangle was handled as not the main plot line, and I kinda root for Sel (I’m a sucker for a morally grey guy with a heart of gold).
