5.0
A dark fantasy that uses its fantasy elements to highlight the dark underbelly of how women and trans people are/were treated. It’s set in Victorian England and the main character, Silas, is a trans boy who gets sent to a boarding school for young girls who don’t obey.
Graphic: Sexism, Body horror, Abortion, and Gore
Moderate: Transphobia and Sexual assault
Minor: Xenophobia
Every explicit thing is used masterfully to create dire but not unrealistic situations considering the way the book is written. I’m not super good with horror but I respected it anyway
