Somewhat incestuous love interest

and two out of three husbands in the book are just awful?? Like one cheats on his wife after she forgives him for kissing a man after they’re married and waits four years from him to get back from war?? And the other just resurfaces from the dead after a YEAR because he didn’t want to see her after he saw their son die and she just accepted that??? Not her best work but Bill and Elsie redeem the book even though they’re only briefly mentioned. Wish it focussed more on them
