The London House by Katherine Reay

4.0

This was a very good book where the "time jump" was more through letters and diaries and not in the actual narrative except the very beginning and the very end. this was a good story of Releasing of past hurts and embracing the past as simply being a part of who we are but not what fully defines us. That the actions of others don't have to dictate how we live OUR lives. I enjoyed the ending of possibilities.

One thing I was surprised at was the lack of "inspirational fiction vibes", though Katherine Reay is usually considered a CF writer. We even have been talking about this book on a CF group on FB because of the author. This was however simply a historical fiction novel. There is a portion in it where the character Caro (who we know through the letters and diaries) writes about a night she had sex with her boyfriend (back in the 1940s) and the "details page" is "missing from the letter" but the modern-day character in the book "blushes" from what WAS there. ;) There isn't anything book from any characters about it though it is brought up again later in passing reference. If it was truly inspirational fiction, I'd expect a comment about repentance or something for the pre-marital sex like there usually is in most inspirational fiction. BUT if this ISN'T true inspirational fiction like I am thinking, then it fits what I supposed I would find.

I just wanted to throw that in for anything thinking this was going to have a strong inspirational Christian message in like many of her other books. I still enjoyed the book! :) I also "guessed" the mystery at the end based on something mentioned earlier in the book that I was sure would be important later! ;)
