Trick Mirror: Reflections on Self-Delusion by Jia Tolentino

5.0

I was already a big Jia Tolentino fan pre-Trick Mirror, and this debut book did not disappoint. Her approach to exploring questions, rather than offering answers, was a refreshing approach to non-fiction essay collections. In the internet age, it feels like everyone is defending what they are doing, or needs to have formed an opinion on everything. Yet Trick Mirror allows the you to explore questions with Tolentino, and through your own reading, challenge her thinking too. Her essays are witty and clever, and offer new thoughts and framing of common experiences of 20-something women. I've passed this book onto friends in the hope of sharing her writing for more people to enjoy.
