Voice of the Gods by Trudi Canavan
3.0

The third installment of the Age Of The Five trilogy cannot, in my opinion, quite live up to the second one, which is the height of the series (even though there isn’t much action happening).
Maybe the reason is that the author is not very comfortable with writing battle scenes or intense conflict. However, this does not explain all of this book’s shortcomings.
The characters are struck by a very intense kind of blockheadedness. Sometimes their extreme ignorance and stupidity can drive you up the wall and many surprises can be seen coming from a mile away.
Still, the book does sometimes manage to surprise and the unfolding revelations about the world and its concepts are quite interesting (and leave you wanting to know more – which you don’t get).
The very end of the book was, sadly, very anticlimactic, and even the bittersweet taste of true love couldn’t win me over. I feel that a slight restructuring and a change in pace, maybe a few more pages in the end, could have made a huge difference.

A very influential book (series) during my teenage years, but no masterpiece.
