Loving Sports When They Don't Love You Back: Dilemmas of the Modern Fan by Jessica Luther, Kavitha Davidson

5.0

A must read for any sports fan grappling with their fandom

I love sports. And more recently, especially with the pandemic, I've been thinking about how I come to terms with loving sports and watching sports and rooting for sports even though the world is experiencing this major health crisis and athletes likely shouldn't be putting their lives and livelihoods at risk. Or how to support teams despite the overwhelmingly number of owners who suck. Or watch the Olympics or World Cup despite the devastating human cost. This book doesn't necessarily provide answers but it does provide a lot of thoughtful and well-researched discussion. Having followed both Luther and Davidson this comes as no surprise given the quality of their previous work.
