The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu
4.0

Follows scientists through technical, political, and human interactions as details about extraterrestrial life are slowly revealed.

Pros
- Considers big ideas on a human scale
  • The importance of science to progress
  • Is society beyond saving?
  • Do humans have a stronger right to life than other species (terrestrial or extraterrestrial)?
  • Class distinctions
  • Deification of the unknown / vilification of the know

- Sets things up really well
  • The timeline might be unsatisfying, but having the
    alien invasion 400 years out
sets the stage for some (potentially) really interesting human interactions

- Dense
  • Considers details
  • Slower pacing allows each revelation to become exciting

Cons
- Unsatisfying as a standalone

- Dense
  • Would not recommend this to someone trying out sci-fi for the first time, especially if they’re expecting an action-packed alien invasion story
