There were times when this book had me laughing out loud! I found myself immediately connecting with the main character and his group of friends with whom he formed the "Old But Not Dead Club." Although the pace of the book was a bit slow, I did thoroughly enjoy it as I really enjoyed the satirical and comical side, peppered with the realities of aging which can, at times, also be heavy and emotional. The book dealt with themes of disability, such as dementia, and death (of loved ones and of oneself), but also maintained a light-hearted nature whereby readers could understand that one has to enjoy each and every day and moment, fleeting as they may be, and surround oneself with the company of friends to share special moments with. To paraphrase Evert (one of Hendrik's best friends), if you don't like something about your life, don't just complain about it, do something about it!
