The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

This book deserves all the hype and is one of my favorite reads of the year. Most everyone knows the story of Achilles and Patroclus but this retelling makes them feel human. Miller doesn't shy away from this being a love story and even though they aren't explicitly lovers in the Iliad. . . it's obvious that they loved each other.

One of my favorite reading moments is when I read a sentence or phrase that is so beautiful or such an evocative description of what just happen that I have to pause for a moment to soak it in. That happened frequently with this book and Miller's writing. I did feel like there was a bit of a lull about halfway through the story, but once you continue on there is SO much that happens and from that point on I was sucked in and finished the second half of the book in one sitting.

Just read it, okay?
