Malala: My Story of Standing Up for Girls' Rights
by Malala Yousafzai
Read this book as a preview for my 9yo daughter. It is well written and abed I think will be okay for my daughter with some additional conversation (she is sensitive to conflict). I was fascinated by the story and inspired to find out more about this incredible young woman.

The story does reference and cover terror caused by the Taliban. The main character and author, Malala, is shot as point blank range as well as two of her friends. They all survive though Malala's recovery is long and isolated. The story maintains a positive outlook throughout. It also contains some overview of Islamic faith, referencing God/Allah and prayer, as well as Muslim culture, including dress, women's and men's roles, and religious celebrations. There is a reference and one page summary on displaced persons.
