The Moscoviad by Yuri Andrukhovych

Unlike almost anything else. It is just a day or so in the life of our main character, the Ukrainian poet Otto von F as he dilly-dallies his way to an appointment at friend's house in Moscow. But that's too gentle of a way to put it. There are KGB agents and shower sex with strangers and bombings and snake-taming girlfriends and fantastique underground hells? and drink after drink after drink. Beer, vodka, vodka, vodka. A wild ride through Moscow in the early 90s. The book jacket claims Yuri Andrukhovych is 'kin to David Foster Wallace', which shouldn't be thrown around lightly, but in some respects I can't disagree.
