For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten

4.5*

This is severely underrated I fear!

“Bring back yearning” we have screamed, and it’s been hidden in gems like this the whole time.

The atmosphere/setting was perfect for this time of year when it’s really dark and cold out! The prose and style of writing itself was also really lyrical and the flow was perfect for the setting.

The slow-burn yearning in this book was *chefs kiss*, and although I wouldn’t say the characterisation was really strong, I still fully bought into it all. Realistically, Red could be any FMC and Eammon’s main characteristic was that he was a self-martyr, but the way they came together for some reason just really clicked for me.

I also enjoyed that the main driving factor behind pretty much every character’s actions was love. Whether it was for good or bad, people will watch the world burn to save somebody they love.

I actually really wish I’d highlighted/tabbed this one as I went as there were SO many good lines - about longing, about leaving old lives behind, about acceptance - that I wish I could jump back into and find them easily.

The only thing that dropped half a star is I would say the plot isn’t the most intriguing/unique. I wasn’t surprised by anything that happened, and pretty much predicted most of it, but the journey along the way kept me hooked.
