What a beautiful little tale about a robot named Roz who gains sentience by learning from the wild animals and natural world around her. Roz washes ashore a small island where she boots into consciousness and begins to explore the world around her. She is immediately drawn into the complexity of animal communication and the circle of life, and learns from every small creature she comes across.
Roz decides to look after an orphaned goose egg that hatches into Brightbill, who she raises and considers her son. She becomes a pillar of support in her community and they all live peacefully until the arrival of three robots searching to capture Roz. Conflict ensures with casualties to her little community, but Roz finds ways to protect them as much as possible.

It was such a a cozy and comforting read with an abundance of little personalities and unique souls. Definitely an immediate new favorite that I will reread often for comfort and the love of found family.
