With 4 books buildup and 6 years of crushing you simply have to make something more special than this. There was no build, just casually asking him out one day and then them being in a fine boring relationship the rest of the book. So disappointing
Also the age gap is not dealt with well or really at all. One character was 16 when they met and they've got a nine year gap between them. The story goes "oh well I didn't view him romantically until 21 so it's fine" but didn't tell us what changed in their relationship to cause this so I don't believe it. The only other way it's mentioned is calling him ” mature for his age" which is a direct tactic groomers also use... I don't care who you are, I was a mature 21 year old and I know damn well that I wouldn't have been fit to date a thirty year old at that age. If you're going to plan an age gap romance, at the very least you have to write what they did to overcome these differences and balance out power in the relationship
