I love the pop culture references that show up in this book! I think it's great when authors use their work to shout out other authors, projects, or tv shows that their fans (or they themselves) enjoy. I have been a long time reader of Evangeline's especially her Brides of the Kindred series (see [b:Claimed|10439221|Claimed (Brides of the Kindred, #1)|Evangeline Anderson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327942833s/10439221.jpg|15343817] if interested) so a new series about different aliens was a nice move for her. The males are less human looking, new cultural norms to learn, and so far we're not stuck on the "one villain at a time" shtick that is going on with Kindred series. Also the obvious hero/heroine pairing for the next book isn't so pronounced at the end of this book, (yes predictable, but not exhaustively spelled out in this work).
