Jaded, Walker Ford #2, by Anne Calhoun
Grade: C-

“We’re a cliche”

Lucas Ridgeway left Dever after a tragic accident and returned to be sheriff of Walker Ford, South Dakota. Years later what happened in Denver still has control over his life and things have only gotten worse and made him shut off all of his emotions. When his tenant, Alana Wentworth, who happens to be the town’s librarian, finally acts on the feelings between them Lucas sets out to have a casual, no-strings attached affair. The time these two spend together the more Alana breaks down Lucas’s defenses and opens his eyes to the world he’s been missing.

Alana Wentworth loves being the librarian of Walker Ford but she knows it’s only temporary until she returns to her society life in Chicago. Determined to be different when she goes home, Alana knows she must get Lucas Ridgeway into her bed and is shocked when it finally happens. As their relationship grows Alana has a harder time not getting attached to the people in Walker Ford and their sexy sheriff and she finds herself choosing between her heart and her family duty.

I loved the first book in this series and was so excited to read Jaded. I loved the idea of the sheriff and the librarian but sadly this book just didn’t do it for me. The beginning is amazing and pulls you right in but it fizzles very quickly. I found myself not caring about Lucas or Alana and was much more interested in her sister Freddie. These two just seemed very boring to me and I wanted Alana to stand up for herself a lot more. About halfway through the books picks up again only due to old characters coming back.

The community of Walker Ford kept my attention but there wasn’t enough of it to keep it for long periods of time. I am hoping that the next book, which I hope is Nate’s, will have more the dark passion that Unforgiven had. I really loved that book which is why I’m going to continue on with this series even though Jaded was such a disappointment for me.
