I had high hopes for this sequel to “This Poison Heart” because I loved the first book. The last half of the novel was really good. I liked the use of language and the character developments. The Greek mythology elements were present and beautifully included into the plot line too. But I was a little disappointed by the first half. The story felt dragged a lot of the times. I was also under the impression that the characters acted differently compared to the first novel. Furthermore, I wished that the relationship between Marie and Briseis was developed a little more being their interactions seemed forced sometimes.
Everything considered it was an enjoyable read and a round ending for this duology.
Favorite quote: “I was in love for the first time. The thought sent a little shiver of excitement through me. We would be mortal and fragile together and there was something beautiful about that.”
