Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World Vol. 1 by Ryohgo Narita, Tite Kubo

slow-paced

2.0

This book was not good.  My love of Bleach was the only thing that got me to finish it.  This book is marketed as being about Hisagi but he's not even present for 3/4's of it.  This book feels like it should have been the introduction to a longer novel.  It sets up characters and introduces possible plot lines but none of them go anywhere or are resolved.  This entire book exists entirely to set up the story for volume 2.

On top of it's lack of plot this book suffers from a combination of questionable writing combined with questionable translations.  The few times I was able to get into the flow of this book I was almost immediately stopped by a weird line or odd wording.  Multiple times "...!"  and "...?" are used as lines of dialogue.  While those make sense in manga speech bubbles, they do not make nearly as much sense in a novel.

I really wanted to like this book.  I'm really annoyed with myself already because I know I'm going to read the second one and hope it's better.
