Hearing Voices by John Watkins
5.0
Hearing Voices looks at the phenomenon of auditory hallucinations recorded historically. The author explores other psychological disorders and conditions which share the symptom of hearing voices.
I read this because I have personal experience with voices. For some people, the voices become personalities and alters. For others, the voices are a calling or a wake up call or a farewell from a loved one before they depart. There was one story where a father told his son “I’m tired. Please let me go.” The son gave him permission to leave.
The voice faded.
The son telephoned his family. This father had passed.
Other times, (in Sigmund Freud’s case) the voice of a loved one is heard. He looked around, could not locate the source. He calls home later and asks his family what they were doing at that time. They weren’t doing anything of note and everyone was safe.
I think there is something to the phenomena of voices. I find it interesting how the characteristics of the voices in different people hold such uncanny resemblance. That’s the main reason for why these hallucinations hold such intrigue for me. I look forward to reading more on the topic. The human mind is extraordinary.
