kdthomas 's review for:
The Beauty of Darkness
by Mary E. Pearson
I am not going to go into too much of a review for this, as it is the third in the trilogy, but I will say that I enjoyed it. I thought that the relationship between Lia and her Beau was unnecessarily troublesome. I didn’t think that it really added to the story, and the first two books they had a realistic relationship that I enjoyed seeing..
One thing that I can’t really tell if I like or not is the little mini cliff hangers that she throws in- for instance Lia would be ecstatic to see someone – but then Pearson would make you wonder and speculate on who it might be. Most of the time, I could deduce who it was, only once or twice did it actually surprise me. I thought it was more annoying than anything. Like, I can see what she is trying to do, but I don’t think that it makes her writing better or more suspenseful. Pearson also drops paragraphs of really lyrical writing that doesn’t really fit with the rest of her writing. Almost as if she wants to make her writing to be held to a higher standard- if that makes sense.
Overall, I enjoyed the storyline and when she wasn’t going on lyrical rants or holding back information, I enjoyed the writing too. I am looking forward to reading the next book that she has in this world.
