The plot of the story - star crossed lovers destined to be the end of each other - I love, but I just felt that relationship between the main characters lacked the star crossed lovers part? If you know what I mean? I think that if the writer would have shown us glimpses of each lifetime where Arden and Evelyn fell in love with each other it would've made me believe in their love story and that their love could transcend lifetimes... Even in the chapter about their "origin story," we were expected to believe that they were just so in love? I guess this just made it hard for me to see or understand what made their love so strong and great to the point that The Mother was drawn to them in the first place and needed to exploit that love.
I also feel that the last chapters of the book just seemed very rushed and unsatisfactory. Everything Evelyn/Branwren was fighting so hard to stay alive for was for naught. Arden/Dylan didn't seem to have an important role to the story anymore.
I feel like A LOT was missing from this book and essentially was left with a feeling of needing something more from this book.
I give the book 2 stars because of the twist when we find out the reason for the infinite lifetimes, which actually was not what I was expecting, and because I feel like this book had potential to be great.
