The Cherry Robbers
by Sarai Walker
A perfectly fine gothic novel. I read it based on a recommendation, and wouldn't have picked it up or kept reading if that hadn't been the case. Not because it was bad, it just didn't really explore ideas new to me and didn't hit my (admittedly sky-high) standards around craft. Also, I would have written my PhD on certain female gothic writers of the early 20th century, so I may be worse about this than other genres. It's like I hear a clock ticking my life away when I continue reading things that don't really impress me.
If you're not insane like I am, you'll probably enjoy it.
