Reminders of Him
by Colleen Hoover
This book just kinda sucked. I didn't get how Colleen wanted us to view Kenna, at the beggining she seemed a horrible person, with even her not telling us the audience the truth, keeping it hidden and showing what seems to me a women with no remorse who would literally kidnap her child to see her. But later on she is suddenly this lovely women. I understand character development but I already don't like her at this point I simply don't care for changing my mind.
Even though we see "The truth" from Kennas letters I still feel she is the villain, and is oftern written like the villain. And then you move to town, sure with good intentions to meet your daughter, but then you start acting like a mad person banging on doors and chasing the family put of the parking lot??
Kenna is constantly saying I get why they are mad at me, and then doing shit anyway. Maybe like figure out what the hell your doing before you do shit. Your plan never would have worked.
The relationship between Ledger and Kenna is so fast building. Ledger is so quick to drop the years of hate against her to instantly falling in love, like literally the first time she walks into his bar. And considering Diem means so much to Ledger is shocking to know he instantly doesn't not care about kenna and immediately feels guilty.
Also the name Diem??? Really??? Made me audibly laugh out loud and have to share with a friend. Carpe Diem??? Okay kenna you deserve to be in prison for that name.
Anyway, I feel like the book could have been 100 pages. Way too long, like I almost decided to dnf this book cause my god it just dragged on and felt like no progress was happening. And then the last 3 chapters is where shit happens?? Love that but that could have been drawn out longer or maybe more time could have been spent on getting Grace and Patrick to like her and trust her.
Overall I feel the plot was just meh, like I didn't care whether she got to see Diem because she painted herself as an unlikeable character. I felt more grief with Grace and Patrick and completely understood them. I also didn't like how the entire sentencing, prison and events surrounding that were described, like did colleen do any research besides google?? Also why does colleen suck at writing smut?? She just does let's be honest, and characters just being "in love". And thats her whole things apparently.
Would I recommend this book to anyone?? No. This book was boring for the most part, and poorly written, I have so many passages in my notes that I've had to share with others for how laughable they were, not making sense and being stupid. Also I would say those who do dnf it, rightfully so. I mean I would say I am glad I didn't since it got slightly more interesting at the end, but I regret wasting my time on this.
